What To Do With Clothing Donations During Coronavirus

As a broken record has repeatedly said, this pandemic and Shelter in Place order is the perfect opportunity to start tidying every inch of your home to create a space that sparks the upmost joy for you and your family. However, instead of focusing on tidying, let’s focus on the various locations and non-profits you can donate your items to.

One of the most frequently asked questions I get is, “Where can I donate my items? Do you have a list?” Ladies and gentlemen, you have asked and I have answered. Below is are my recommendations for all your donation needs.

Additionally, I promise to continue updating this blog post as I discover new donation sites (feel free to share your favorites) that may be helpful. Enjoy!

Dress for Success

If you have a lot of professional clothing, find your local chapter for Dress for Success. This project serves women in need of interview clothes and other amazing programs for development.

Princess Project

For formal wear, consider your local Princess Project organization that gives your fancy frocks another chance to go to the prom or high-end event.

SPCA - Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

If you want to support your local SPCA, they love donations of linens and towels for their furry friends.

ThredUp

Order your ThredUp bag and ship off your gently used clothing items or jewelry to this consignment store.

RealReal

The RealReal is a great upcycling consignment shop for luxury and brand name items.

The Closet Trading Company

The Closet Trading Company is a women's boutique selling secondhand designer apparel, outerwear, accessories, jewelry & shoes. Non-local and local consigners can schedule local pick-ups or mail merchandise.

Community Thrift Store

Community Thrift Store is a nonprofit retail organization and sustainable business that raises funds for over 200 Bay Area Charities.

GreenDrop

This organization converts lightly used clothing and household items into critical funds for great American charities.

Goodwill

When in doubt, Goodwill is a trusted donation drop-off located all over the nation. If your items include furniture, kitchenware, or other home goods, Goodwill might be a better resource.

If your local chapters or centers are still closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, I encourage you to continue tidying and store your donation bags in your car or a place that is easily visited as a constant reminder to drop-off. I find that storing in your car is the easiest way to ensure drop-offs as you might drive-by a local Goodwill store or the Post Office during your errand runs.

As previously mentioned, I will continue updating this blog post as new resources are discovered. If you have any suggestions or want to add to this list, please email me!

I hope this blog post finds you well and those bags and bags of clothes in your garage make their way to those in need during this difficult time.

Stay safe, everyone!
